Xiaomi is preparing something extraordinary! A new 7-seater SUV is already being tested and the numbers are astonishing Xiaomi is planning its first seven-seater vehicle The new model should offer a combined range of up to 1500 kilometers Market launch is expected in 2026 Sdílejte: Jakub Kárník Publikováno: 13. 7. 2025 06:00 Xiaomi continues its expansion into the automotive market and, according to the latest information, is working on a completely new model that could be designated YU9. Following the successful debut of the electric sedan SU7 and the recently introduced SUV YU7, this should be the largest vehicle in the Chinese tech giant’s portfolio to date. Bigger, Taller, and More Spacious The new model should not be just an extended version of the existing YU7, but a completely new vehicle with its own identity. According to leaked information on the Chinese social network Weibo, it is expected to be a full-fledged large SUV with a significantly more angular and robust bodywork. The total length should reach an impressive 5.3 meters, making the vehicle a direct competitor to models like the Huawei Aito M9 or Li Auto L9, which are very popular in China. A fundamental change compared to the brand’s current electric vehicles will be the interior layout. The YU9 will offer three rows of seats and the capacity to transport up to seven passengers, which is a first for Xiaomi. The company is thus responding to the strong demand for spacious family cars, which is particularly pronounced in China. Unique Hybrid Powertrain with Record Range If the rumors are confirmed, the YU9 will become Xiaomi’s first vehicle with an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) system. This hybrid system combines an electric motor with a gasoline engine, which primarily serves as a generator to recharge the batteries. Particularly noteworthy is the alleged cooperation with engine manufacturer Dong’an, which is expected to supply a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine for the YU9. This unit, together with the electric motor, should ensure a combined range of up to 1500 kilometers, which would represent a top value in its class. The electric drive alone should then offer a range of around 200 kilometers. The powertrain is reportedly equipped with all-wheel drive and supports fast charging with voltage up to 800 V, which would allow for extremely rapid battery charging. Xiaomi is thus clearly trying to address one of the main problems of current electric vehicles – limited range and long charging times. Smart Technology Typical of Xiaomi As with previous models, we can expect maximum emphasis on integration with the Xiaomi ecosystem. The vehicle should feature its own infotainment system based on the HyperOS operating system, which the company uses in its latest phones and other devices. Users can likely look forward to advanced smart home integration. Xiaomi has previously demonstrated the ability to control home appliances directly from the vehicle’s onboard computer, and this feature should be further expanded in the case of the flagship SUV. Competition for Established Manufacturers With the YU9 model, Xiaomi is venturing into a segment where established manufacturers like Li Auto with its L9 model or Huawei through the Aito brand with the M9 model operate. Both of these competitors already offer luxurious seven-seater SUVs with extended range and enjoy considerable popularity in China. Xiaomi’s advantage could primarily lie in its ability to compete on price thanks to economies of scale within its extensive ecosystem, as well as its significant fan base built in the consumer electronics segment.
