During its latest product launch, Xiaomi also introduced new wireless headphones called Xiaomi Open Earphones Pro. The open-ear headphones focus on comfort, spatial audio, and various voice features, such as independent audio recording even with the case closed, or real-time Chinese-English translation. The sound of the headphones was also tuned in collaboration with experts from the Harman Golden Ear team.

One of the advantages of the headphones is the open acoustic system with five drivers, which includes:

  • 18 x 13 mm bass driver (woofer)
  • Dual dynamic treble drivers (tweeters)
  • Piezoelectric ceramic driver, which extends the overall frequency range and ensures sound clarity

The headphone sound also offers several preset equalizer modes and support for spatial audio with 360° head tracking, which can potentially enhance the listening experience (if the technology is truly well-implemented). The headphones can be controlled by gestures and also have the ability to connect to multiple devices simultaneously.

Xiaomi Open Earphones Pro also focus on a comfortable design

The headphones model Xiaomi Open Earphones Pro is generally designed for long-term wear; the construction uses thin titanium ear hooks that are reportedly designed to withstand over 5,000 bends. The liquid silicone surface also adds to the comfort, and thanks to the three-point ergonomic system and adjustable length (up to 45 mm), the headphones should fit various ear shapes well.

However, as open-ear headphones, they naturally leak some sound outwards. For this reason, Xiaomi has implemented an independent sound leakage prevention system, which uses inverted sound waves and is certified by the Chinese National Institute of Metrology.

Essentially, this is analogous to the active noise cancellation (ANC) function, but instead of silence in the ear canal, its task is to reduce sound leakage outwards. The system ensures that at normal volume, you won’t disturb your surroundings as significantly as with other open-ear headphones.

Battery life, protection, and availability

The Xiaomi Open Earphones Pro headphones will offer IP54 resistance, providing partial protection against dust and splashing water. In practice, this means you simply cannot submerge the headphones in water. On a single charge, the headphones will last up to 8.5 hours of operation, but up to 45 hours with the case.

Currently, the headphones are available in China, priced at 999 yuan, which is approximately 2,950 CZK. They are also available in black, silver, or gold color variants.
